Hur ofta ska du tvätta håret — ett nordiskt perspektiv

Amino scalp behandling

If you ask ten hairdressers, you will get ten answers. That is because the right frequency depends on you, not on a rule.

The myth of "daily washing"

For decades, daily washing was sold as a standard of cleanliness. The reality is that hair and scalp are part of an ecosystem. Your natural sebum coats the hair fibre and protects it from external aggressions — heat, dryness, pollution. Washing too often strips this layer; washing too rarely leaves residue. The sweet spot is personal.

Four factors that decide for you

1. Hair type and porosity

Fine, straight hair shows oil within a day or two — sebum slides down faster. Curly and coily hair takes three to five days to look greasy because the fibre's coil structure slows sebum migration. Coarse, thick hair sits in between.

2. Scalp condition

An oily scalp produces more sebum and tolerates more frequent washing. A dry or sensitive scalp benefits from gentler, less frequent cleansing. Dandruff or sensitivity is a sign the routine needs adjusting — not always more product.

3. Activity level

Daily sport, swimming, or sweat-heavy work change everything. Sweat alone does not require shampoo, but salt or chlorine does. A rinse-and-condition between full washes is enough.

4. Climate

In Nordic countries, indoor heating in winter creates very dry air. The scalp dries faster and washing too often makes it worse. In summer with humidity and sun exposure, oil and product build-up accumulate quicker, so a slightly higher frequency makes sense.

A practical Nordic routine

  • Fine hair, oily scalp: every 2 days with a gentle shampoo. Use a dry shampoo or scalp powder on day 1 and 3.
  • Medium thickness, balanced scalp: 2 to 3 times per week. Co-washing (conditioner only) between full washes works well.
  • Curly, dry scalp: 1 to 2 times per week. Focus on hydration through conditioning masks and leave-in treatments.
  • All types in winter: extend the interval by half a day. Cold air and indoor heat dry the scalp.

What to use between washes

The right care between washes is more impactful than the shampoo itself. A leave-in conditioning spray hydrates the lengths without weighing them down. A scalp serum keeps the root balanced. A pre-shower oil massage stimulates circulation and reduces breakage.

We curate three families of treatment that cover this routine: a hydrating leave-in conditioning spray, a scalp bubble treatment, and a styling spray for hold without stickiness. They are designed to be used together and last between 30 and 90 days.
